The Computer Monitor is an output device. It looks like a small television screen which enable your computer to display the information that you want to look at. The display images on the monitor is called the soft copy. While the image printed out using a printer is called the hard copy.

The on/off button of a monitor is found in front on the monitor itself (usually at the right hand corner). There are also sets of buttons that enable the user to adjust the brightness, sharpness and even the contrast of the image being displayed. These buttons are found either below the screen or on the sides.

Monitors come in a variety of sizes, resolution and types. The greater the screen size, the larger the image that is displayed onto the screen of the monitor. The clarity of the image depends on the resolution (the monitor's ability to display image which is measured in dot pitch). Larger and higher resolution is useful for graphics, pictures and desktop publishing projects.

The cost of monitors have been reduced, now that there are the introduction of new flat screen panel monitor. Flat screen monitor are common nowadays due to its capability to enable users to carry tasks just by touching the screen (touch screen technology). Especially now that there is a major use of touch screen tablet PC. Touch screen technology enable the user to press an option on the screen using the finger instead of the mouse. Such monitor are designed to recognize the touch and where it is pressed in the specialized programs through the use of a special microprocessor.
