What is a Computer Mouse?





The computer mouse is use to move the mouse pointer on the monitor screen of the computer. Moving the mouse is easy as long it is on a mouse pad (on a flat desk surface) and it is connected.

The same rule applies to the mouse track ball where moving the track ball (located at the side of the mouse).

Most common mouse have two 'click' buttons. These buttons function as to select and activate the features shown on the computer screen.

Mouse and track ball functions:

'Click' - This is the action taken by the device in order to select items shown on the computer screen by left-clicking it.

'Double-click' - Pressing the left button twice enable the mouse to initiate programs or to open files.

'Right-click' - Pressing the right button once will show the user the shortcut menu of the item selected on the computer screen.

'Left Drag' - By pressing and holding the left mouse button, it will allow the user to move or select multiple items on the screen.

'Right Drag' - Pressing and holding the right button will enable the user to move or copy items that is selected on the screen.

'Middle wheel or middle button' - A mouse which have this feature can allow the user to scroll the screen to the left, right, up or down direction.

'Thumb button' - Some mouse will have a thumb button located on the side.It allow user to perform specific tasks like start programs and even act as an alternate 'Ctrl' key.

Moving the mouse pointer on the monitor screen follows the movement coordinated by the user using the mouse or track ball. Whether the mouse is moving up, down, right or left. The mouse pointer usually follows how the computer mouse is moved.
